Halloween Eve | Wind Orchestra

Saturday 31 October · 21:00

Casa Capitão, Lisbon

The ancient Celtic cultures believed that, during the transition from the end of the harvest to winter, the border between the world of the living and the world of the dead became blurred. Bonfires, masks and rites helped to ward off spirits. Later, the Christian calendar added All Saints' Day, with the eve being called in English «All Hallows' Eve»; this expression gave rise to the word «Halloween». Meanwhile, the world kept turning. Successive waves of Irish and Scottish immigration brought the tradition to the USA, and it was returned to the old Europe in a transfigured version, via Hollywood. For all these reasons, it makes sense for us to put together a soundtrack on a global scale. Homer's Odyssey inspired Robert W. Smith. Andrew Boysen Jr. wandered through cinematic plots in a small symphony. John Mackey revived the Japanese imagery of the tsukumogami; objects that acquire a spirit and a life of their own. This concert ends in Vienna, with a frenzied waltz. There are seats available, but there is no reservation and no assigned seats. Seats are occupied on a first-come, first-served basis, so if you want to guarantee a good seat and a good position in relation to the stage, we recommend that you arrive early.
