The highlight of the week George Michael, Faith Tour By David Austin, Andrew Morahan. United Kingdom, 2026, 113 min. It is impossible to say, in the face of this concert film, whether what is most incredible is the news that reached us, in 2026, that the footage filmed during the two concert nights at the Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy, at the end of the 1980s, was believed lost for many years; or whether it is the consequent news of its discovery, restoration and remastering, decisive for intensifying the experience of watching a George Michael concert from 1988, with immaculate image and sound quality. The recording made with 14 cameras and 35mm film resulted in a texture of images that suggest a palpability that has nothing to do with the digital in vogue in our days. George Michael was promoting his debut solo album, Faith (more than 25 million records sold), along with hits from Wham! and covers in which he always demonstrated throughout his career that he had impeccable taste. Michael, at 25 years old, was a consummate stage animal, an icon of masculinity dressed in a sleeveless shirt, biker jacket, pointed boots and mirrored sunglasses. The Parisian audience, when filmed in detail, showed itself to be mostly made up of young people of both sexes, wearing colorful t-shirts, with lighters lit during the ballads (the effect is beautiful on film print), and singing the words of the songs in full, responding to the pop star's call: the anthem Faith is first vocalized by the audience, and only afterwards does George Michael take over the same vocal part. The live performance is preceded by a prologue entitled Finding Faith, conceived by Mary McCartney, in which the also recently discovered audio of George Michael's voice, overlaid on a set of photographs by Herb Ritts from the same period, gives us an account of the musician's intentions and anxieties, aroused by a moment in which he was becoming a planetary star. The Faith Tour now reaches us because it corresponds absolutely to the perfectionism demanded by this unique artist. RG. Other premieres.
