Joana Vasconcelos

Thursday 12 November – Thursday 26 November

Centro Português de Serigrafia - Centro Cultural de Belém, Lisbon

The artist presents a new collection of serigraphs inspired by the signs of the zodiac, published in collaboration with the Portuguese Center for Serigraphy. The title of the collection pays homage to the artist's father, the photographer Luís Vasconcelos, member no. 311 of the Portuguese Center for Serigraphy, establishing a personal and emotional connection to this new artistic project. Joana Vasconcelos's drawings transfer to paper a visual language that runs through her sculptural practice. Between curves and counter-curves of vibrant colors, the shapes draw a dreamlike and immaterial universe, where color and line suggest an energy in permanent transformation. More than representations of a recognizable reality, these drawings open space for the imagination and new possibilities of perception, inviting the eye to travel along sinuous lines that intertwine in an intuitive and sensory composition. In the artist's practice, astrology constitutes a tool for reflection and self-knowledge, through which we deepen our awareness of who we are and how we relate to the world. In this context, drawing becomes a territory of inner exploration, in a dialogue between body and mind. Symbolically associated with transformation, the transition to the Age of Aquarius adds a contemporary dimension to the collection, evoking the possibility of a profound renewal in the values and structures of society. In this first presentation, Signos 311 brings together five of the twelve signs of the zodiac: Aquarius, Libra, Crab, Leo and Scorpio, each in a limited edition of 150 copies. The collection also includes one more serigraph of a smaller format, Fénix, with an edition of 200 copies. The project will continue in 2027, with the presentation of the remaining seven signs of the zodiac, thus completing the collection. Monday to Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Free.
