MAC/CCB hosts 'Here I Stand', an exhibition spanning more than three decades of Ângela Ferreira's work, deeply marked by her investigation of the relations between history, memory, architecture and colonialism.
A central figure of Portuguese contemporary art, Ângela Ferreira arrives at MAC/CCB with 'Here I Stand', an exhibition spanning more than three decades of her artistic practice. Between installation, sculpture, video and photography, the artist has built a body of work profoundly marked by the investigation of the relations between history, memory, architecture and colonialism. Born in Maputo and trained in Sculpture at the University of Cape Town during the apartheid period, Ângela Ferreira brings into her work a biographical and historical experience that crosses different geographies and political contexts. Curated by Nuria Enguita, the exhibition brings together works from the earliest pieces of the 1990s to the most recent creations, revealing a continuous investigation into infrastructures, figures, events and architectures linked to the colonial experience and its consequences in the present. Recognised as one of the first artists in Portugal to openly confront the country's colonial past, Ângela Ferreira proposes a critical look at its legacies, without forgetting the different forms of resistance that emerged from them. ARV. Tuesday to Sunday, from 10h to 18h30. Technical sheet: Curated by Nuria Enguita.
