The programme Ao Lado do Cinema, curated by Irit Batsry, brings together rarely screened shorts and three key features by Karim Aïnouz, Marcelo Gomes, Cao Guimarães and Sandra Kogut, dissolving the borders between experimental video and narrative cinema, with a talk by Cristiana Tejo on 25 July.

Ao Lado do Cinema, Imagem em Movimento Brasileira: entre Videoarte e Cinema brings together works by four reference filmmakers, Karim Aïnouz, Marcelo Gomes, Cao Guimarães and Sandra Kogut, whose practices cross and dissolve the boundaries between experimental video and narrative cinema. Curated by Irit Batsry, the programme offers the opportunity to see rarely screened short films, which reveal the formal and thematic seeds of later works, as well as three fundamental feature films, which highlight the evolution of these artists' engagement with questions of identity, displacement and the poetics of everyday life. The exhibition programme is accompanied by a conversation with Cristiana Tejo, on Saturday 25 July at 18h, about the historical, aesthetic and political contexts that shape these works, in partnership with the NowHere platform. Programme: 23 Jul, 15 Aug: Karim Aïnouz, Marcelo Gomes. 25 Jul, 18h: Conversation with Cristiana Tejo. 5, 28 Nov: Cao Guimarães, Sandra Kogut. Thursday to Saturday, from 16h to 20h. Technical sheet: Curated by Irit Batsry.
