Merai is a Portuguese-Angolan singer-songwriter and multidisciplinary artist, born in Lisbon in 2000. Her practice extends across music, writing and performance, building a cohesive authorial universe where all dimensions interconnect. As an artist, Merai brings something magical to the mundane, rejecting the automation that governs our lives, seeking the transcendental. As a singer-songwriter and producer, she has been asserting her language through songs such as “Ser (Mito de Orfeu)” and “O Meu Corpo Não”, exploring both the symbolic and the political dimension. In 2025, she published the book “Contos e Mitos de Plorema”, where we discover that her name comes from a character in this book, a bird-woman. In parallel, she has developed projects in different contexts, including compositions for contemporary dance, performances that took her to stages such as Teatro S. Luiz, and participation in festivals and debates linked to art and democracy. There are no seats, nor assigned ones, at Casa Capitão concerts. To guarantee a good position facing the stage, it is advisable to arrive early. And be ready to spend one or two hours standing.
